Ms. Cecilia Wanjiru Kayongo
Deputy Principal Academics
Cecilia Wanjiru Kayongo is the Deputy Principal at Mwala Technical and Vocational College (MwalaTVC), a position she has held since February 2021. With a wealth of experience in technical education, inclusive training, and institutional administration, she has consistently demonstrated dedication to advancing the goals of the TVET sector in Kenya.
Before her deployment to MwalaTVC, Mrs. Kayongo served as the Head of Department for Fashion and Clothing Technology at Machakos Technical Institute for the Blind (MTIB). During her tenure at MTIB, she not only oversaw academic and skills-based training tailored for learners with visual impairments but also played a central role in college management. She chaired several critical committees, including the Guidance and Counselling Committee, the Procurement Committee, and the Asset Management Committee, among others. Her leadership at MTIB was marked by a strong emphasis on inclusive learning, student empowerment, and effective resource management.
At MwalaTVC, Mrs. Kayongo continues to serve with distinction. She is responsible for coordinating all academic programs across departments, managing class timetabling and examinations, and ensuring the smooth implementation of the curriculum. She supervises both teaching and non-teaching staff and leads in promoting staff mentorship and development. She is also actively involved in student affairs, overseeing discipline, supporting welfare initiatives, and guiding academic performance improvement strategies.
In addition to her administrative duties, she chairs key institutional committees such as the Academic Board, the Disciplinary Committee, the Quality Assurance Committee, and the Risk Management Team. She works closely with the Principal in policy implementation, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement, and serves as Acting Principal when called upon. Her leadership style emphasizes collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Mrs. Kayongo is also a certified assessor and moderator with the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), the TVET Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council (TVET-CDACC), and the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA). Through these roles, she contributes meaningfully to the national TVET assessment framework and upholds high standards in training and certification.
She holds professional qualifications in technical education, home economics, and institutional leadership, supported by additional certifications in assessment and mentorship. Her work continues to impact the lives of learners, staff, and the wider community.

Message From the Office of Deputy Principal Academics
The Office is responsible for assisting the principal in day-to-day management of the institution including the planning and overseeing the daily timetable of the classes. The office is also involved in other major activities which include:
Development of key institute’s strategic aims as well as participation in the formulation/review of academic policies and preparation/review of academic work manuals and procedures.
Corporate planning, staff recruitment, training of administrative staff, staff and students’ discipline, personnel administration and registry administration.
Chairing a number of strategic institute committees, such as Institute Academic Board, examinations and Timetable among others.
Working with the principal’s office in development of institutional and professional capacities aimed at enhancing the provision of quality and relevant technical education and training, including Staff Continuous Professional.
The office is responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of the Institute Strategic Plan with regard to academic programs towards achievement of the intended short and long-term goals.
