Head of Department

Hawkins Annan Balewa is a dedicated and forward-thinking educator committed to excellence in the field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Since joining Mwala Technical and Vocational College in September 2022 as a trainer, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership and technical expertise, culminating in his appointment as the second Head of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department on September 5, 2023. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Technology Education (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. As a certified Trainer, Assessor, and Verifier licensed by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA), Hawkins is well-equipped to deliver high-quality training and assessments that align with industry standards. He is also a graduate member of the Institute of Engineering Technologists of Kenya, reflecting his commitment to professional growth and advancement in the engineering sector. Under his dynamic leadership, the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department has experienced remarkable growth, solidifying its reputation for providing quality technical education. Hawkins continues to spearhead initiatives that enhance the department's curriculum, ensuring that trainees receive practical and industry-relevant skills essential for the modern workforce. Beyond his administrative role, Hawkins plays a crucial role in performance contracting, ensuring accountability and goal-setting within the institution. He remains actively engaged in mentoring, training, and advocates for competency-based education and skilling, fostering an environment that encourages innovation, collaboration, and professional excellence. His dedication to advancing technical education and promoting engineering excellence remains at the core of his vision for the department and its trainees. His involvement in the college’s resource mobilization committee showcases his commitment to securing funds and partnerships to support institutional growth and sustainability.

 

Message from the Office of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department

Our department is divided into three sections, each specializing in a specific area of engineering. We offer market oriented, trainee centered, competency-based programs in three levels as described in the Kenya National Qualification Framework including:

  • TVET CDACC Level 4 (Equivalent to Artisan Certificate)
  • TVET CDACC Level 5 (Equivalent to Craft Certificate)
  • TVET CDACC Level 6 (Equivalent to Diploma)

Medical Engineering Section

In the Medical Engineering Section, we offer a comprehensive Diploma (Level 6) program in Medical Engineering. This program prepares students for careers in the healthcare industry, where they play a vital role in maintaining and servicing medical equipment, ensuring the safe and effective delivery of healthcare services.

Mechanical Engineering Section

Our Mechanical Engineering Section offers a diverse set of diploma courses including plant engineering, production engineering, welding, fabrication and automotive engineering. These programs provide students with hands-on training and theoretical knowledge, making them well-
